One of the essential skills for fundraisers involved in In Memoriam and Tribute fundraising is the ability to talk to bereaved donors. For many, especially those new to this fascinating area of fundraising, the interaction with families and friends of the deceased can seem daunting, if not really scary! This special one-day course, provided by Institute of Fundraising London Region in association with The Supporter Development Team, and delivered by Kevin Kibble, has been developed exclusively for fundraisers and will show you not only how to instigate and hold conversations with the bereaved, but also give you the confidence to know that it is OK to talk about the deceased and about fundraising.

You will learn skills such as:

  • Listening and questioning Skills
  • Keeping boundaries
  • Telephone skills
  • What bereaved people say helps and what doesn't
  • Devising prompt sheets
  • Looking after yourself - not taking emotional matters home

Issues covered include:

  • The process and effect of grief
  • Sudden and/or traumatic grief
  • Dealing with loss and loneliness
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • What supports people and what doesn’t
