Today's world is dominated by communications, so understanding how we represent information and how we send it over the globe is fundamental to modern life. This course is for KS1 & 2 and covers the Subject Knowledge Requirements for Data and Data Representation.

 PROGRAMME (STC)

1. What is data?

2. How are data stored in a computer

3. Text, music, pictures. They are all just numbers !

4. How to send data and what happens when it goes wrong.

5. Is all data free ?

The session will be a mix of theory and practical sessions, with worksheets for you to use in the classroom. If you have never got to grips with binary, ASCII or picture file formats then this will get you started.

These sessions have been previously run as part of the Level 1 CAS Master Teacher Training.

SPEAKER

Duncan Maidens MIET CEng

Duncan is a Senior Lecturer at Birmingham City University specializing in Computer Networking and Digital Communications. With a career in industry and academia, Duncan has always led the way making technology easy to understand. With the experience of running a Lead Cisco Academy for the past 15 years, and with STEM and CAS roles, Duncan has a wealth of experience in teaching teachers.
